Sulfur Combination with Other Dyes

Tin is a metal which can combine with other chemicals to form compounds. When tin is combined with chemicals such as chlorine, sulfur, or oxygen, it is called an inorganic tin compound. Inorganic tin compounds are found in small amounts in the earth s crust. They are present in toothpaste, perfumes, soaps, coloring agents, and dyes. [Pg.10]

Sodium dichromate and various chromic salts are employed in the textile industry (195,196). The former is used as an oxidant and as a source of chromium, for example, to dye wool and synthetics with mordant acid dyes, oxidi2e vat dyes and indigosol dyes on wool, aftertreat direct dyes and sulfur dyes on cotton to improve washfastness, and oxidi2e dyed wool. Premera11i2ed dyes are also employed. These are hydroxya2o or a2omethine dyes in which chromium or other metals are combined in the dye (see Azine dyes DYES Azo dyes). [Pg.146]

Nitration. Nitration conducted with nitric acid alone or in combination with sulfuric acid, provides an efficient method for preparation of mono-, di-, and trinitro derivatives of many aromatic hydrocarbons and of hydroxy, halo, and other substitution products. The polynitro compounds accessible by the direct route have the m-orientation, and o- and p- dinitro compounds, though obtainable by indirect methods, are rare. Products of nitration are useful dye intermediates. [Pg.279]

Nickel sulfate can be produced from either pure or impure sources. The pure source involves the reaction of pure nickel or nickel oxide powder (combined or separately) with sulfuric acid to produce nickel sulfate that is filtered and crystallized to produce a solid product. The impure raw material may be spent industrial liquor that contains a high percentage of nickel sulfate. The impurities in the liquor are precipitated by sequential treatment with oxidizers lime and sulfides can later be filtered out. The treated liquor, which is a pure solution of nickel sulfate, can be packaged in a drum or further crystallized and dried to produce solid nickel sulfate. Nickel sulfate is used mainly in the metal plating industries. Other uses include dyeing and printing of fabrics and production of patina, an alloy of zinc and brass. [Pg.938]
