Lead shows excellent resistance to phosphoric and sulfuric acid in almost all concentrations and at elevated temperatures, as well as to sulfide, sulfite, and sulfate solutions. The corrosion film is insoluble lead sulfate which rapidly reforms if it is damaged. Lead is also resistant to chlorides, fluorides, and bromates at low concentrations and low temperatures. However, because lead is soluble in nitric and acetic acids, it is not resistant to these acids. [Pg.63]

There are a number of other methods to prepare crude sulfane oils, e.g., from hquid H2S and elemental chlorine or bromine [10] or by reaction of H2S with sulfur fluorides [10] or sulfur chlorides [20] but these processes are of httle practical importance. [Pg.103]

Table VII gives the m.p. of other alumohalides and their mixed systems. For example, low-melting electrolytes based on AlCla MCl chloraluminates, where M is Li, Na, K, have been considered (87), and cells with A1 anode and various cathodes, both inorganic and organic, were tested. The sulfur cathode seems to be the most suitable, although complex chlorides, fluorides and sulfides show possibilities. An experimental Al/S cell is described in detail in (88). The reaction 2A1 + 3S = AI2S3 provides a TED of 1275 Wh/kg at 200°. It is viewed only as a primary battery, however at the present time (88). Thus, the reaction of 1,4-dioxane with sulfur tetrafluoride and hydrogen fluoride in the presence of small amounts of sulfur chlorides or chlorine (0.3 0.5 %) at 185-220°C results in the replacement of 3-5 hydrogen atoms by fluorine to give mixtures of a polyfluoro-1,4-dioxane 1 or 3 and 2-fluoroethyl-l,2,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl ether (2) in a ratio dependent on the reaction temperature.237 Using technical grade sulfur tetrafluoride without addition of a sulfur chloride or chlorine, this reaction is not reproducible, but when carefully purified sulfur tetrafluoride is used the reaction does not give fluorinated products, instead a tar is formed.237... [Pg.395]
