Sulfonamides interaction with other drugs

Celecoxib is indicated for the treatment of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Its use is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to sulfonamides or other NSAIDs. It should be used with caution in persons with hepatic disease. Interactions occur with other drugs that induce CYP2C9 (e.g. ri-... [Pg.431]

The drug most commonly used in clinical practice that can produce immune thrombocytopenic purpura is heparin. Other examples are sulfonamides, thiazide diuretics, chlorpropamide, quinidine, and gold. These types of immune thrombocytopenic purpura are reversed when the drug is withdrawn. Molecular mechanisms for the formation of specific drug-dependent antibodies appear to be very similar. The glycoproteins on the platelet surface interact with the drugs to form neo-epitopes. Subsequent... [Pg.81]

Important drug interactions of the sulfonamides are seen with the oral anticoagulants, the sulfony-lureas, and phenytoin. In each case, sulfonamides can potentiate the effects of the other drug, either by inhibiting its metabolism or by displacing it from albumin. Dosage adjustment may be necessary. [Pg.720]

Interactions with the following drugs may increase the risk of hypoglycemia other hypoglycemics, sulfonamides, propranolol, salicylates, clofibrate, probenecid, pentamidine, valproic acid, dicumarol, cimetidine, MAO inhibitors, and alcohol. In addition, co-ingestion of alcohol may occasionally produce a disulfiram-like interaction (see p 186). [Pg.94]

Celecoxib is associated with fewer endoscopic ulcers than most other NSAIDs. Probably because it is a sulfonamide, celecoxib may cause rashes. It does not affect platelet aggregation at usual doses. It interacts occasionally with warfarin—as would be expected of a drug metabolized via CYP2C9. Adverse effects are the common toxicities listed above. [Pg.802]
