Unsymmetrically substituted sulfites are prepared by the reaction of chloro-sulfinates with alcohols as shown in Eq. (3). The chlorosulfinates may be prepared by the methods [22-23] described in Eqs. (13)—(16). 

Some examples illustrating the preparation and yields of unsymmetrically substituted sulfites are shown in Table V. 

The cyclization with ot-oxoaldehydes may be effected in alkaline, acidic or neutral medium sodium hydrogen sulfite may also be added. In reactions of unsymmetrically substituted benzene-1,2-diamine with a-oxoaldehydcs, two isomeric products are formed. 

Unsymmetrical dialkyl peroxides can be prepared by several methods. Some of them are summarized in Scheme 31. Primary " , secondary or tertiary"" " alkyl hydroperoxides can serve as substrates and are converted to the dialkyl peroxides by acid- or base-catalyzed nucleophilic substitution with alkylating agents like dialkyl sulfate " , diazomethane " , dialkyl sulfites, alcohols " or alkyl halides (e.g. in the presence of silver trifluoroacetate) "". An overview of the results obtained utilizing the method mentioned above is given in Table 7.
