Sulfides, alkynyl allyl

Bromination of the enol ether product with two equivalents of bromine followed by dehydrobromination afforded the Z-bromoenol ether (Eq. 79) which could be converted to the zinc reagent and cross-coupled with aryl halides [242]. Dehydrobromination in the presence of thiophenol followed by bromination/dehydrobromination affords an enol thioether [243]. Oxidation to the sulfone, followed by exposure to triethylamine in ether, resulted in dehydrobromination to the unstable alkynyl sulfone which could be trapped with dienes in situ. Alternatively, dehydrobromination of the sulfide in the presence of allylic alcohols results in the formation of allyl vinyl ethers which undergo Claisen rearrangements [244]. Further oxidation followed by sulfoxide elimination results in highly unsaturated trifluoromethyl ketonic products (Eq. 80). 

Alkynyl sulfenylotion.x Reaction of a lithium acetylide with the adduct (a) of the reagent (1) with an alkene results in a complex mixture or an allylic sulfide. However, alkynyl sulfenylation can be effected with the ate complexes of a lithium acetylide with a thiophile. Two complexes can be used the 2 1 complex with (C2H5)2A1C1 or the 1 1 complex with A1(C2H5)3. 

These organocopper intermediates were successfully trapped with electrophiles such as allyl bromide, acyl chlorides, and diphenylchlorophosphine, but not with benzaldehyde and methyl iodide. The resulting products were subjected to in situ oxidation with elemental sulfur to form stable alkenylphosphine sulfides 353 [103]. Owing to its synthetic potential, the regioselective carbometallation of substituted ynol ethers has recentiy witnessed a renaissance [91aj. Thus, the alkynyl ethers 354 were treated under different carbocupration conditions (Scheme 10.121).
