Sulfide, tributyltin oxide

Trimethyl(trifluoromethyl)silane can be converted into tributyl(trifluoromethyl)tin (40) in quantitative yield by treatment with bis(tributyltin) oxide in tetrahydrofuran under fluoride ion initiation. Tributyl(trifluoromethyl)tin readily trifluoromethylates disilyl sulfides at room temperature giving the corresponding trifluoromethylated di- and trialkylsilancs 41 in high yields. This method provides a new approach for the preparation of silicon-based trifluoro-methylating reagents via transtrifluoromethylation of compounds containing Si — S bonds. 

The stability of the M—S bond, where M is a heavy metal (e.g., Hg, Sn, Pb), gives a route to metal sulfides by the addition and subsequent elimination processes of reaction (h) (11.5.1). For example, when bis(tributyltin) oxide is heated in CS2 at 145°C, bis(tributyltin) sulfide is formed in 99% yield ...

Finally, if the addendum is the organotin oxide, the first acceptor is an isocyanate and the second acceptor is an isothiocyanate, the decarboxylation stage is followed by elimination of bis(tributyltin) sulfide, providing a route to carbodiimides ... 

Carbon disulfide also reacts with tin amides, such as Me3SnNMc2, to give the insertion products . Tin alkoxides react similarly to give the 1 1 adducts. For example, reaction of bistributyltin oxide 103 with carbon disulfide affords bis(tributyltin)sulflde 105 with elimination of carbonyl sulfide . The reaction involves the insertion product 104 as an intermediate.
