The extent to which the concentrations of the various substrates control the rate of proteoglycan. synthesis in vivo is difficult to assess in view of the limited information available on this subject. The concentrations of some of the uridine nucleotide sugars in skin have been determined (see p. 400), but more complete data are needed, particularly concerning the many steps of protein synthesis, before these aspects of regulation can be properly evaluated.
