Suffix carbaldehyde

When a formyl group (—CH=0) is attached to a nng the ring name is followed by the suffix carbaldehyde... [Pg.704]

When the aldehyde group is directly attached to a carbon atom of a ring system, the suffix -carbaldehyde is added to the name of the ring system, e.g., 2-naphthalenecarbaldehyde. When the aldehyde group is separated from the ring by a chain of carbon atoms, the compound is named (1) as a derivative of the acyclic system or (2) by conjunctive nomenclature, for example, (1) (2-naphthyl)propionaldehyde or (2) 2-naphthalenepropionaldehyde. [Pg.26]

Common names for simple aldehydes are frequently encountered. These common names are derived from the common names for the related carboxylic acid (see Section 12.4) by replacing the suffix -ic acid with the suffix -aldehyde. Thus, the aldehyde related to acetic acid is acetaldehyde. If the carbonyl group of an aldehyde is attached to a ring system, the compound can be named as a hydrocarbon with the suffix -carbaldehyde. (Some sources use -carboxaldehyde.)... [Pg.473]

Methylcyclopentanecarbaldehyde (The suffix -carbaldehyde indicates that the —CHO group is attached to the parent ring.)... [Pg.474]

Systematic names for aldehydes are derived by replacing the final -e of the alkane name with -al. An aldehyde carbon is at the end of a chain, so it is number 1. If the aldehyde group is a substituent of a large unit (usually a ring), the suffix carbaldehyde is used. [Pg.818]

Remember that the principal chain must contain the aldehyde or ketone group and that an aldehyde group occurs only at the end of a chain. The aldehyde carbon is carbon 1 in an acyclic compound, and the suffix -carbaldehyde is used when the aldehyde group is attached to a ring. [Pg.472]

For more complex aldehydes in which the -CHO group is attached a ring, the suffix -carbaldehyde is used ... [Pg.754]

Special case When the chain cannot include the carbon of the aldehyde, the suffix "carbaldehyde" is used 9 o... [Pg.680]

A CHO group bonded to a ring is indicated by the suffix -carbaldehyde. [Pg.445]

Notice from the last two examples that an aldehyde group has priority over a double bond or a hydroxyl group, not only in numbering but also as the suffix. For cyclic aldehydes, the suffix -carbaldehyde is used. Aromatic aldehydes often have common names ... [Pg.254]

For cyclic molecules in which —CHO is bonded directly to the ring, the molecule is named by adding the suffix -carbaldehyde to the name of the ring. The atom of the ring to which the aldehyde group is bonded is numbered 1. [Pg.633]

To name an aldehyde with the CHO bonded to a ring [1] Name the ring and add the suffix -carbaldehyde. [2] Number the ring to put the CHO group at Cl, but omit this number from the name. Apply all other nomenclature rules. [Pg.538]

If an aldehyde group is attached to a ring, use the suffix -carbaldehyde. [Pg.598]
