Sublimation dyes

The leuco dyes of this new class are peculiar in that they are capped at their 10-position by another dye moiety. They are in fact colored leuco dyes which on oxidation are split into two different dye fragments one of the dyes is destined for the receptor sheet while the oxidized leuco hopefully remains on the donor sheet. The capping dye is selected among sublimable dyes whereas the azine dyes being cationic in nature would be less mobile. They have been developed to address some problems encountered in thermographic and photothermographic systems.24 Representative examples of this class of leuco dye developers are compounds 65, 66, and 67. [Pg.90]

Heat and usually pressure are needed to fix the transferred or directly printed pattern into the textile substrate. For sublimating dyes, heat activates sublimation with the dye particles transforming from solid to gaseous form, easily penetrating into the fibers, often with pressure helping to force the particles into the spaces in the polyester fibers,... [Pg.133]

Heat transfer printing n. A method, whereby a printed image is transferred from a carrier to a receiving substrate by the use of heat. In the process, as currently performed, the ink is made up of sublimable dyes in conventional ink vehicles the carrier is paper, and the receiving substrate is a synthetic fabric. [Pg.487]

There are a number of other screen process formulations, including the use of sublimation dyes, printable resists, and printable liquid adhesives, which can also benefit from substrate pretreatment. When heat and pressure convert sublimation dyes into a gas phase decoration that is typically transferred from a paper carrier to the sublimate (material to be decorated), the hydrophilicity of the receiving sublimate is key. The same can be said about the need to remove low molecular weight organics to heighted the hydrophilicity of metal surfaces which must accept screen-printable resists prior to the final acid etching process. And, if adhesive patterns are required for bonding two similar or dissimilar materials, the need for... [Pg.156]
