Cholesterol level decrease. The husks and seeds were administered orally to six normal adult males and five adult males with ileostomy and six normal adult males and four adult males with ileostomy, respectively, at a dose of 10 g/day for 3 weeks. The husk had no effect on cholesterol or triglyceride concentrations in either normal or ileostomy subjects. Total and HDL cholesterol concentrations were reduced on average by 6.4 and 9.3%, respectively, in normal group after seed supplementation. No effect on fecal bile acid excretion in the normal subjects was found after both regimens. Ileostomy bile acids were increased (on average 25%) after seed supplementation, whereas no effect on cholesterol concentrations was found. These results suggest that psyllium seed may be more effective than the husk in... [Pg.424]

The literature has used two names for this subject total dynamic head or total developed head (H or TDH). Let us derive TDH first by considering the system connected in parallel between points 1 and 2. Since the connection is parallel, the head losses across each of the pumps are equal and the head given to the fluid in each of the pumps are also equal. Thus, for our analysis, let us choose any pump such as the one with inlet g. From fluid mechanics, the energy equation between the points is... [Pg.232]

During chronic double-blind, placebo-controlled infusion in healthy men, tezosentan 100 mg/hour for 6 hours in six subjects (total dose 600 mg) and 5 mg/hour for 72 hours in eight subjects (total dose 360 mg), headache was the most common adverse event (75-100% with tezosentan and 50% with placebo) (3). [Pg.3343]

In fact, subsequent research by Meinert et al. (2000), showed that the concerns of the Women s Congressional Caucus were unfounded. In 100 455 trials published in US journals between 1966 and 1998, 55% involved men and women, 12% involved men only and 11% involved women only (for 21% the policy could not be determined). For 724 trials in five leading journals, female subjects totaled 550 374 and male subjects only 355 614,... [Pg.134]

Strontium is excreted in urine and, to a lesser extent, in feces, milk, and sweat. In healthy adult subjects, total clearances of 9.4-11.7 mL/min [58,59] were demonstrated, while the renal clearance appeared to vary between 4.0 and 5.4 mL/min [58,59]. Studies based on the simultaneous administration of radioactive calcium and strontium revealed that the strontium/calcium ratio is higher in urine than in the glomerular filtrate, which suggests that the two elements are discriminated during tubular reabsorption in the kidney [72-74]. In the process of aging, the strontium/calcium ratio in urine decreases rapidly until about 25 weeks of age, followed by a much slower decrease [5]. [Pg.581]

Based on all the analysis done and also considering the results, we asked both the students and the faculties to propose their own remedies for this issue. Most of the students felt that this subject is alienated and needs additional care which would increase their workload. They also felt that it might become an extra burden for them as the time stipulation to study that subject along with 5 other subjects (totally 6) was less than 6 months. Hence they felt that the syllabus could be made simple or reduced for CSE and IT students alone. It is not a convincing remedy as the syllabus was framed well, and our observation from senior faculty members is that the syllabus was well and good. Some students felt that more class tests need to be conducted. [Pg.328]
