Custom programming such as macros should conform to good programming practices and be subject to source code reviews. Interfaces between systems should also be specified and tested.

Eight-membered ring systems have been the subject of extensive theoretical effort. The large number of atoms in these systems has limited the study of these ring system by ab initio methods however, a variety of semiempirical and statistical methods has been used to address the various conformational possibilities associated with this ring system. Increasingly, computational studies are found in conjunction with x-ray diffraction and NMR studies and are often used to rationalize the observed conformations and various conformational processes.
