Subfractions of high density lipoproteins

The HPLC method of choline-containing phospholipids monitoring system for serum was applied to the iden ification of HDL subfractions in human serum (33). The elution patterns of TC or PL using the 63000SW+G3000SW+G3000SW column system 

Our HPLC technique for serum lipoprotein analysis has many clinical applications, some of which have already been reported (32, 36-39). 

Three examples of the clinical applications are presented alteration of lipoprotein distribution for a patient with acute hepatitis according to recovery of disease (Fig. 23), change of HDL subfractions for a patient with coronary heart disease by a drug therapy (Fig. 24), and diagnosis of the type for hyperlipidemia by HPLC patterns (Fig. 25). 

In Fig. 23, the elution patterns of cholesterol and choline-containing phospholipids using the G4000SW column system for the various stages of a patient with acute hepatitis are shown. These patterns present distinct changes of serum lipoproteins according to recovery the decrease of large particle size lipoproteins, the increase of HDL, the increase of the ratio of cholesterol to phospholipids in each lipoprotein class.
