The second atypical carbon skeleton in the genus Sub-ergorgia is that of subergane, a new tricyclic isomer of hirsutane and capneUane. All of these compormds derive from subergorgic add, a cardiotoxin, and have currently been extracted only from the species Subergorgia suberosa.
