Structure of Various Carbon Allotropes

Carbon Materials for Catalysis, Edited by Philippe Serp and Jos Luis Figueiredo Copyright 2009 John Wiley Sons, Inc. [Pg.507]

Sensing mechanisms using carbon materials can be summarized into four categories. Each category uses a specific property of carbon materials. It is summarized here briefly so that readers can link these applications with their intrinsic stmctures, to be discussed later. First, carbon materials are used as loading media. This mechanism requires a large surface-to-volume ratio to enhance the gas adsorption. The smaller the carbon material dimension, the larger the surface-to-volume ratio is. Any nanomaterials may be used for this purpose. The reason to choose carbon for a particular application is due primarily to [Pg.508]
