Structure Formation in Inorganic Precipitation Systems

1) to create emergent complexity from (simple) chemistry with (mild) kinetic nonhnearities and under nonequilibrium conditions and 

2) to enhance this complexity and extend it to macroscopic length scales by allowing stmcture formation, spatial compartmentalization, and transport. 

This rather grand manifesto clearly must be substantiated, demonstrated, and tested in reproducible experiments. Furthermore, all results must be analyzed

In this chapter, we discuss a different experimental approach that involves inorganic polymerization and precipitation reactions. As we will show, these experiments match the two aforementioned characteristics and could develop into an important model demonstrating the utilization of chemical complexities at the system level in materials science and engineering.
