Strontium systems

I. Phase Diagrams, Intermetallic Phases and Compounds 7.3.3.I.4. Strontium Systems. [Pg.443]

These chemical effects become important in medicine because living systems operate mostly through the reactions of enzymes, which catalyze all sorts of metabolic reactions but are very sensitive to small changes in their environment. Such sensitivity can lead to preferential absorption of some deleterious isotopes in place of the more normal, beneficial ones. One example in metabolic systems can be found in the incorporation of a radioactive strontium isotope in place of calcium. [Pg.364]

Sa.lts Salting out metal chlorides from aqueous solutions by the common ion effect upon addition of HCl is utilized in many practical apphcations. Typical data for ferrous chloride [13478-10-9] FeCl2, potassium chloride [7447-40-7] KCl, and NaCl are shown in Table 9. The properties of the FeCl2-HCL-H2 0 system are important to the steel-pickling industry (see Metal SURFACE TREATMENTS Steel). Other metal chlorides that are salted out by the addition of hydrogen chloride to aqueous solutions include those of magnesium, strontium, and barium. [Pg.442]

The product stream from the kilns is collected in storage bins. Black ash from the bins is fine-ground in a ball mill and fed to a leacher circuit, which is a system of stirred tanks, where it is dissolved in water and the muds are separated by countercurrent decantation. The solution from the decantation is passed through filter presses the muds are washed, centrifuged, and discarded. The filtered product, a saturated solution containing 12—13 wt % strontium sulfide, is sent to an agitation tank where soda ash is added to cause precipitation of strontium carbonate crystals ... [Pg.474]

Goldschmidt predicted from his empirical rule that calcium chloride would not have the fluorite structure, and he states that on investigation he has actually found it not to crystallize in the cubic system. Our theoretical deduction of the transition radius ratio allows us to predict that of the halides of magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium only calcium fluoride, strontium fluoride and chloride, and barium fluoride, chloride,... [Pg.277]

Among the high-temperature superconductors one finds various cuprates (i.e., ternary oxides of copper and barium) having a layered structure of the perovskite type, as well as more complicated oxides on the basis of copper oxide which also include oxides of yttrium, calcium, strontium, bismuth, thallium, and/or other metals. Today, all these oxide systems are studied closely by a variety of specialists, including physicists, chemists, physical chemists, and theoreticians attempting to elucidate the essence of this phenomenon. Studies of electrochemical aspects contribute markedly to progress in HTSCs. [Pg.630]
