Rats may be bled conveniently from the tail vein (Shek and Howe, 1982). Other simple methods suitable to obtain small quantities of serum from mice are from the tail-tip and from the retro-orbital plexus (Herbert, 1973). For large animals the jugular vein is convenient. The blood samples are allowed to coagulate for about 2 h at room temperature and then incubated overnight at 4°C. The serum is decanted, clarifled by low-speed centrifugation and stored in conveniently sized aliquots at — 20 or — 70°C. [Pg.59]

Madison s and Webster s early assessments of Brutus s impact soon proved correct. Brutus became one of the most formidable of the Antifederalist foes of the proposed constitution, and in New York state he was arguably the most formidable of all. Time and again Publius refers directly or indirectly to the letters of Brutus, and vice versa. As Herbert Storing notes ... [Pg.435]

Brutus s sixteen Lcttmappeared in the New-York Journal and were first collected by William Jeffrey, Jr. and published together in the University of Cincinnati Lam Review, 40 4 (1971), pp. 643-777. They were republished with a useful introduction and explanatory footnotes by Herbert J. Storing in The Complete Anti-Federalist (1981), vol. vi, and in the one-volume abridgment edited by Murray Dry (1985). The text used here follows Storing, with minor corrections. [Pg.631]

The initial days after snow deposition are characterized by an increase of the snow density and a significant decrease of the SSA (Cabanes et al., 2002 Jellinek, 1967 Hanot and Domine, 1999). Measured SSA values range from 19 to 1558cm g (Domine et al., 2007). A rapid decrease in SSA due to snow compaction and metamorphism leads to the loss of a snow pack s capacity to store chemicals within the interstitial air and on the ice surface. This can result in the release of substantial amounts of sorbed constituents from the snow pack (Wania et al., 1998 Hanot and Domine, 1999 Herbert et al., 2005 Hansen et al., 2006 Taillandier et al., 2006 Burniston et al., 2007). [Pg.516]
