Storage densities

To yield high storage densities, layer thicknesses in the order of the focused laser beam are necessary in the storage medium, measuring about 1 )Tm. Another possible advantage of the PHB method is its potential multiplexing characteristics by synchronous recording and read-out, exceptional data transfer rates can be achieved. These high transfer rates are of equal importance in practical data technology as high storage densities. 

The relative volume and mass for the different fuel systems, normalized to that of diesel, is shown in Fig. 2 and illustrates the disadvantages of most of the alternative fuels compared to gasoline and diesel, in terms of storage density.

Enhancement of gas storage capacity through adsorption occins when the overall storage density is increased above that of the normal gas density at a given pressure. The adsorbed phase has a greater density than the gas phase in equilibrium with it. However, enhancement in a storage system of fixed volume can only happen if a greater amount of gas is adsorbed compared to the volume of gas displaced by the adsorbent volume. 

A store of the same capacity, designed to give immediate access to any one pallet, would have a floor area of 1260 m and a volume of 9600 m , giving a storage density of 94 kg/m . 

Small stores for miscellaneous products must allow for random stacking of a variety of different packages. The storage density may be between 100 and 450 kg/m when the store is fully loaded, allowing for access passages. A closer estimate could be made if probable loadings and package shapes were known [29, 33].
