Storage capacity controlling propertie

The conceptual approach of "storage capacity-controlling properties" forms the link between the geochemical cycles comprising driving forces such as organic matter/redox-sensitive elements and cycles of mobilizable micropollutants. This concept of coupled cycles has been designed by Salomons (1993 Fig. 10.1). 

Analytical and experimental procedures as well as technologies related to final storage can be deduced from the concept of interlinkage between major biogeo-chemical cycles and capacity-controlling properties, as has previously been shown in Fig. 10.1 (Fig. 10.5) ... 

Soil provides the medium in which plants grow it stores precipitation within the ET cover and provides nutrients for plant growth. Total (potential) soil-water storage capacity is controlled by soil properties. The storage capacity available at any instant in time is controlled primarily by the balance between infiltration from precipitation and rate of water removal from the soil by ET.
