Triphenyl Stibine

Triphenyl stibine has been prepared 1 from antimony trichloride and chlorobenzene dissolved in dry benzene in the presence of sodium. This yields triphenyl stibine dichloride, which on decomposition with hydrogen sulfide yields triphenyl stibine. Triphenyl stibine has also been prepared2 by the action of phenyl magnesium bromide and antimony trichloride. 

Stibine, (o-bromophenyl)dichloro-, 1007 Stibine, chlorodimethyl-, 1007 Stibine, chlorodiphenyl-, 1007 Stibine, ethylenebis(diphenyl-, 1008 Stibine, ethylidynebis(dimethyl-, 1008 Stibine, o-phenylenebis(dimethyl-, 1008 Stibine, triethyl-, 1008 Stibine, trimethyl-, 1008 Stibine, triphenyl-, 1008 sulfide... 

In volume terms the most important class of fire retardants are the phosphates. Tritolyl phosphate and trixylyl phosphate are widely used plasticisers which more or less maintain the fire-retarding characteristics of PVC (unlike the phthalates, which reduce the flame resistance of PVC products). Better results are, however, sometimes obtained using halophosphates such as tri(chloroethyl) phosphate, particularly when used in conjunction with antimony oxide, triphenyl stibine or antimony oxychloride. 

When cool, the reaction mixture is poured slowly with stirring into 1 1. of ice and water (Note 2). If the stirring is thorough, most of the triphenyl stibine is to be found in the ether layer. 

With the ligand dbp similar reactions yielded CoCl(dbp)3 and Co(dbp)4, but no Co(BH4)(dbp)3. Triphenyl-arsine and -stibine and CoCl2 were reduced to black products, probably cobalt metal. From NaBH3CN is afforded a Co(BH3CN)(Ph2-PCH2CH2PPh2) complex, but this does not subsequently yield a dinitrogen complex.
