Steering Committee for Carbohydrate Symposia

The first actual meeting of the Steering Committee took place in Paris (1970) on the Sunday preceding the symposium it was followed by a dinner. This has become a tradition, taken over later by the International Carbohydrate Organization. Its members have generally met on the Sunday before the Symposia the dinner, to which their spouses are invited, is usually a distinguished affair. This is the members only reward for carrying out their (not too onerous) duties. [Pg.33]

At their meetings on 16 and 18 August 1970, in the Pharmacy School in Paris, the Committee established a constitution and passed a number of resolutions. The 11 members who had served until then were made national representatives of their countries. It was pointed out by Whistler that they did not, at that time, officially represent their countries, and arrangements were made to have them accredited by some authoritative body in each country. That body is usually the Chemical Society or the Academy of Science. It was also decided to create a [Pg.33]

At the Bratislava meeting (1974), Argentina and Norway were accepted as members. In 1976 Poland, New Zealand, Spain, and Israel joined the Committee, followed in 1978 by Denmark and the Netherlands. [Pg.34]
