LACTOZ Steering Group Georges Le Bras Orleans... [Pg.318]

The LACTOZ project has been co-ordinated successively by R. Anthony Cox, Karl-Heinz Becker and Georges Le Bras. This report has been prepared by the Steering Committee of LACTOZ with contributions from I. Barnes and R.P. Wayne. The support of the European Commission for co-ordination of the project and the personal involvement of Heinz Ott and Giovanni Angeletti are greatfully acknowledged. [Pg.323]

On Tuesday, the 12th of July, we saw the island of Corvo, passing it on the north side. It is in 40 N. We then. steered S.E., and on Thursday sighted the island of Graciosa, a small island, but fertile and well peopled. Wc passed the night between it and the island of St. George. We saw much fire on the latter island, and, from the information we received afterwards at the island of Ter-ceira, the reason was as follows —... [Pg.190]

They position, move, transmit forces, carry, hold, store, etc. and the assembly process itself is imagined in terms of positioning the components with the precision associated with mechanical construction. Critics have clearly shown that Drexler s model of a machine is inappropriate for the nanolevel, because he simply transferred a macroscopic machine model without taking into accoimt the radically different environment of the nanoworld. As George Whitesides has pointed out, a nanoscale submarine would be impracticable because of Brownian motion, which would make it impossible to steer. Furthermore, the biomachinery that inspired Drexler does not deal with rigid building blocks either. [Pg.221]
