Spouted beds multiple

The spout bed has been applied to drying, granulation, coating as well as to drying of pastes, solutions, slurries, and suspensions. Multiple Draft Tubes. Studies in the past always concentrate on beds with a single draft tube. A literature survey failed to uncover any reference on operation of multiple draft tubes. Even in the area of conventional spouted beds, the references on multiple spouted beds are rare. Foong et al. (1975) reported that the multiple spouted bed was inherently unstable due to pulsation and regression of the spouts. Similar instability was also... 

Using a very small air orifice, he was able to obtain a miniature spouted bed with glass beads as fine as 80-100 mesh (mean diameter of 0.16 mm). Spouting of such fine material, however, is of little practical interest since it cannot be achieved on a larger scale, except perhaps by the use of a bed with multiple spouts in parallel, such as that developed by Peterson (P3). 

A problem similar to sterilization occurs in the treatment of food with heat for purposes of preservation. However, the situation is more complex due to the multiple components present and the requirement for high quality standards (cf. Fig. 5.79). The technical advantages of a CPFR must be considered when new technology (such as, for example, the fluidized or spouted bed reactor) is introduced (Baxerres, Haewsungcharern, and Gibert, 1977).
