Spoon rings

The so-called spoon ring—basically a cutlery handle bent into a circle—had a resurgence in the 1970s, when you couldn t really call yourself a hippie without a couple of lengths of sterling silver wrapped around your fingers. It s a classic that has stood the test of time plus, this simple project is a great primer on how to cut and bend metal—skills that will serve you well in more complicated metalwork. [Pg.308]

A small portion of the soln. dries to a transparent gum-like mass, but a large quantity of soln., after some days, begins to deposit on the basin near the surface a ring of a substance resembling chalk, and which consists of very fine particles, and radiating masses then extend deeper into the soln. From time to time, the solid is removed from the liquid by means of a spoon, and as much of the mother liquor as possible removed by press. The residual solid is a dry fine crystalline powder. [Pg.337]

Today, bone is used by local populations all over the world, to make trinkets and souvenirs such as bracelets and pendants for the tourist trade. It is also used to make small, high-quality items. Examples of these are spoons, bowls, beakers, letter openers and napkin rings. [Pg.92]

Experiment 14. — Supplies Retort, ring and stand, pneumatic trough, six bottles (about 250 cc. capacity), filter paper, splinter of soft wood, deflagrating spoon, roll sulphur, piece of charcoal fastened to a wire, short piece of wire picture cord unwound at one end, magnesium ribbon, 15 gm. of crystallized potassium chlorate, and 15 gm. of coarsely powdered manganese dioxide. [Pg.24]

Once at the beginning of my service as a chemistry teacher I mixed I thought very carefully potassium chlorate and phosphorus with the aid of a horn spoon. For three days my ears were ringing. The open dish was shattered, the shards had penetrated the desk, and despite a zealous search absolutely nothing was to be found of the horn spoon except the handel, which was in my hand. [Pg.294]

The Teflon seal joint (Fisher Scientific catalog number 14-513-100) consists a Teflon bearing with an exterior 24/40 taper, an 0-ring, and an adapter chuck. The sq>tumed side neck carries a needle-stemmed spoon that can be lowered into the reactor solution to unload the catalyst it carries. The other side neck is connected through a three-way valve to a gas tank and a constant-pressure manometric unit. The gas tank supplies the gaseous reactant while the manometric unit provides a convenient and sensitive method for monitoring the synthesis reaction by means of the gas uptake. The manometric unit (4-6) consists of two mobile arms of equal-diameter burets attached to an adjustable pulley system that is actuated by two... [Pg.170]
