Spinning Preparation Machines

After the harvest, the seeded cotton is ginned. The number of cleaning stages necessary depends on the condition of the raw cotton still containing the seeds. The cleaning is done with regular beaters, like those used by spinning preparation machinery. There are two kinds of machines the saw gin and the roller gin.

It should be mentioned that so inevitable is decomposition of cellulose xanthate and consequent gelation of the contents of pipes and tanks that all viscose rayon plants must be prepared to pump in-process viscose solutions to other spinning machines or to a waste receiver, purging the entire system with dilute caustic solution, in the event of a long delay in spinning.

Besides the impregnation of textiles with dyestuffs or other soluble components in supercritical CO2 the UHDE pilot plant can also be used for the extraction of substances from the fibers (e.g. spinning additives, preparation agents, lubricants, coning oils etc.). 

Manufacture of gas-separation membrane modules is largely a machine-assisted, labor-intensive operation. Polymer dopes are typically prepared batchwise with sufficient hold time to insure uniformity. The membrane performance is largely controlled by the polymer precipitation step and very dependent upon phase behavior and precipitation kinetics. Thus, it is essential that processing conditions be maintained as uniformly and as constant as possible if product quality and uniformity is to be preserved. For this reason, membrane-fihn formation and hollow-fiber spinning processes are usually operated continuously or for extended run times. Since the intermediate film or fiber must eventually be converted into discrete items, the continuous process is typically interrupted by collection of the membrane formed on spools or fiber skeins where it may be inventoried briefly before batch processing into the final assembly resumes.
