Speech privacy

Acoustical control can also be achieved by proper space planning. For instance, workstations that are positioned too closely do not provide suitable speech privacy and can be a source of disturbing conversational noise. As a generi rule, a minimum of 8-10 ft between employees, separated by acoustical panels or partitions, wUl provide normal speech privacy. 

Where speech privacy is important, soxmd masking can be introduced to raise the background noise and hence mask speech or some tonal noises. This principle can only be used successfully in rooms or offices where the conditions are not too reverberant and the backgroxmd noise level is less than 45 dB A.
