Space distortion

Space distortion macropsia, micropsia, distortion of body image - LSD, cannabis... [Pg.193]

Here dL is the descriptor value of molecule i, dav the average (or mean) value of the entire data set, the a standard deviation, and d( the scaled value of descriptor d for molecule i. This procedure ensures that all chosen descriptors have similar value ranges (i.e., that descriptor axes have comparable length) and thus prevents space distortions. [Pg.10]

Methane, CH4, for example, has a central carbon atom bonded to four hydrogen atoms and the shape is a regular tetrahedron with a H—C—H bond angle of 109°28, exactly that calculated. Electrons in a lone pair , a pair of electrons not used in bonding, occupy a larger fraction of space adjacent to their parent atom since they are under the influence of one nucleus, unlike bonding pairs of electrons which are under the influence of two nuclei. Thus, whenever a lone pair is present some distortion of the essential shape occurs. [Pg.38]

Enough space must be available to properly service the flow meter and to install any straight lengths of upstream and downstream pipe recommended by the manufacturer for use with the meter. Close-coupled fittings such as elbows or reducers tend to distort the velocity profile and can cause errors in a manner similar to those introduced by laminar flow. The amount of straight pipe required depends on the flow meter type. For the typical case of an orifice plate, piping requirements are normally Hsted in terms of the P or orifice/pipe bore ratio as shown in Table 1 (1) (see Piping systems). [Pg.55]

If there is more than one current-carrying conductor other than of the same phase, placed adjacent to each other, so that the electric field produced by one can link the other, mutual induction will take place. The magnitude of this will depend upon the amount of current and the spacing between the two. This tends to further distort the selfresistance of the conductor over and above the distortion already caused by the skin effect current distribution... [Pg.878]

Electromagnetic (EM) Conductivity Measures the electrical conductivity of materials in microohms over a range of depths determined by the spacing and orientation of the transmitter and receiver coils, and the nature of the earth materials. Delineates areas of soil and groundwater contamination and the depth to bedrock or buried objects. Surveys to depths of SO to 100 ft are possible. Power lines, underground cables, transformers and other electrical sources severely distort the measurements. Low resistivities of surficial materials makes interpretation difficult. The top layers act as a shunt to the introduction of energy info lower layers. Capabilities for defining the variation of resistivity with depth are limited. In cases where the desired result is to map a contaminated plume in a sand layer beneath a surficial clayey soil in an area of cultural interference, or where chemicals have been spilled on the surface, or where clay soils are present it is probably not worth the effort to conduct the survey. [Pg.124]

Carbon atoms in free space have spherical symmetry, but a carbon atom in a molecule is a quite different entity because its charge density may well distort from spherical symmetry. To take account of the finer points of this distortion, we very often need to include d, f,. .. atomic orbitals in the basis set. Such atomic orbitals are referred to as polarization functions because their inclusion would allow a free atom to take account of the polarization induced by an external electric field or by molecule formation. 1 mentioned polarization functions briefly in Section 9.3.1. [Pg.170]

This property of being curved or distorted is continually being passed on from one position of space to another after the manner of a wave. [Pg.688]

According to investigations performed by Pakhomov and Kaidalova [204], the crystal structure of NF NbC consists of infinite chains made up of distorted octahedral ions (NbOF4 ) linked by oxygen atoms. Ammonium cations, NH/, occupy the spaces between the chains, as shown in Fig. 30. The packing of the structural units in the NH4NbOF4 crystal can be described as a CsCl type structure in which CF ions are replaced by Nb02F4 complexes and Cs" ions are replaced by ammonium ions. [Pg.86]
