Solid solution between perovskite oxides

A good example of multistep solid state synthesis achieved starting from carbonate solid solution precursors is provided by the Ca2Fe2 xMnx05 series of oxides. The structures of both the end members, Ca2Fe205 and Ca2Mn205, are derived from that of the perovskite (Fig. 2). Solid solutions between the two oxides would be expected to show oxygen vacancy... [Pg.21]

How can we be sure that the U +(Q2-) complex in a mixed metal oxide is present as the UO octahedron This can be done by studying solid solution series between tungstates (tellurates, etc.) and uranates which are isomorphous and whose crystal structure is known. Illustrative examples are solid solution series with ordered perovskite structure A2BWi aUa 06 and A2BTei-a Ua 06 91). Here A and B are alkahne-earth ions. The hexavalent ions occupy octahedral positions as can be shown by infrared and Raman analysis 92, 93). Usually no accurate determinations of the crystallographic anion parameters are available, because this can only be done by neutron diffraction [see however Ref. (P4)]. Vibrational spectroscopy is then a simple tool to determine the site symmetry of the uranate complex in the lattice, if these groups do not have oxygen ions in common. In the perovskite structure this requirement is fulfilled. [Pg.71]

In this review, the relationships between structure, morphology, and surface reactivity of microcrystals of oxides and halides are assessed. The investigated systems we discuss include alkali halides, alkaline earth oxides, NiO, CoO, NiO-MgO, CoO-MgO solid solutions, ZnO, spinels, cuprous oxide, chromia, ferric oxide, alumina, lanthana, perovskites, anatase, rutile, and chromia/silica. A combination of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy with vibrational spectroscopy of adsorbed probes and of reaction intermediates and calorimetric methods was used to characterize the surface properties. A few examples of reactions catalyzed by oxides are also reported. 2001... [Pg.265]

Perovskite-related Oxides.—The perovskite-related oxides have been studied extensively in recent years because of the large variety of device applications for which these materials are suited. The interaction between structure, properties, and stoicheiometry is significant at all levels, but here we will discuss only the narrow areas where intergrowth is a dominant structural feature. We will not, therefore, consider solid solutions typified by the Pb(Zr Tii )03 ferroelectrics, and neither will we discuss the structurally complex but stoicheiometric phases related to hexagonal BaTiOj, which includes BaNiOj, which has a simple two-layer repeat in the c-direc-tion, the nine layer BaRuOj, the twelve layer Ba4Re2CoOj2, and the twenty-four layer Sr5Re20ig phase. The crystal chemistry of these phases is treated in detail by Muller and Roy. The materials we shall discuss are the two series of phases A B 0 +2 and A + B 02n+, and the bismuth titanates. Some of the anion deficient perovskites, ABO -x, will be considered in Section 5. [Pg.149]
