Solder furnace heating

The same general procedures of heating and cooling are foUowed in the case of soldering in a furnace, except that a piece of solder can be laid on the junction prior to insertion in the furnace. The solder melts and flows if the upper furnace temperature is properly set. The temperature should be set at ca 14—28°C (25—50°F) above the Hquidus temperature of the solder or at the manufacturer s recommended soldering temperature.

Several DTA instruments have been described by Barrall et al. (94, 95). A DTA calorimeter cell in which the AT-sensing thermocouples are attached to the sample container is shown in Figure 6.35. In this apparatus, copper-constantan thermocouples are soldered to a 4-mm-OD copper cup fitted with a copper lid. The thermocouples and sample cups are supported on ceramic insulator tubes which are attached to a metal base. All the cups were heated by thermal radiation received from the blackened copper radiation shield this prevented radiation hot spots due to furnace windings. The entire DTA cell was enclosed by a glass bell jar which provided a controlled atmosphere from reduced pressures to about 2 atm. 

Plumbing rough- Work performed by the plumbing contractor after the Rough Heat is installed. This work includes installing all plastic ABS drain and waste lines, copper water lines, bath tubs, shower pans, and gas piping to furnaces and fireplaces. Lead solder should not be used on copper piping.

Soldering and brazing are used to join two metal parts by means of a filler metal that has a lower melting point than the base metal. The joint may consist of one or more metals. The filler metal is normally distributed in the joint by capillary action, with additional flux dissolving unwanted oxides. The necessary heat can be provided from a number of sources, including furnaces or fuel gas torches. 

Lead, though sometimes found as a pure metal in nature, is usually found as the ore galena or lead sulfide. Lead ore is crushed, heated in a blast furnace, and then extracted. Most lead produced in the United States is used for battery and battery electrodes as well as lead solder used in making connections on computer circuit boards. 

Furnace Soldering (FS) uniform heating takes place in an inert atmosphere or vacuum.
