Software HABIT

Once ftE calibration and test sets are defined, SIMC. models are estimated using ini rank estimates Offom PCA) and default class volumes (from the software fKrkage). The samples in the test set arc predicted and the results evaimtedaa detennine if modification of the tanks and/or class volumes is needed (see Habit 4 for details of this evaluation). If the number of misclassifi-cations is anacccptable, the rank and class volume parameters are adjusted and the pswress repeated. 

Clinicians will often desire to examine historical data or use relevant references, or primary or secondary literature sources. The software design should include these aspects at a minimum. When prospective drug utilization review flags are presented, false positive warnings should be minimal to prevent practitioners from getting in the habit... 

Both the invisibility and complexity of software identified by Brooks contribute to the difficulty of judging the effort needed to complete software development tasks. This, and the rapidly changing technical environment in which software development takes place, has led to the almost proverbial habit of software projects of being late and overbudget. This in turn has motivated considerable research effort into the problem.
