Soft margarine manufacture

The oval fruited bodies, small smooth grey nuts, several millimetres in size and with a fat content of 30-35 %, are crushed and pressed for their oU. The greenish, medium dried hemp oil contains in its glycerides 46-70 % linoleic and 14-28 % linolenic acids. It finds use as edible oU, and serves as a substitute for linseed oil in paint. Apart from that, it is also used for the manufacture of margarine and soft green soap. [Pg.298]

The area sown in the UK is very small, approximately 800 hectares, yielding up to 2.5t/ha. The decorticated (dehusked) seed contains over 40% of valitable, high quality edible oils which can be used in food manufacture, margarine and cooking oils, but the major part of UK production goes irrto pet foods because the soft shells of the seed make it siritable for native birds. [Pg.349]

If the palm oil is subjected to only a soft pretreatment and low temperature deodorization, much of the naturally occurring P carotene is retained in the oil and tends to concentrate in the olein fractions during fractionation, as shown in Table 1. The various oleins are used in salad and frying oils with a high oxidative stability. The stearins and soft PMF find use in the manufacture of margarines and shortenings. [Pg.444]
