Sensor Sodium

Note that the numbering of the new system is not the same as for the gene symbols. A closely related sodium channel-like proteins have been identified and named Nax. Functional properties of these proteins are not known, except for the NaG protein, which functions as a sodium sensor of body fluid.

Sensing sodium The /1-aluminas (see Section 4.5.3) can be successfully exploited as a sodium sensor. Sodium is widely used in the metallurgical industry, for example for removing arsenic and antimony from zinc and lead, for removing the same two elements and oxygen from copper, and phosphorus from iron. It is also added to aluminium-silicon alloys to control microstructure and, in consequence, mechanical properties. 

These results are consistent with an aberration in central osmoreceptor or sodium sensor or ANG Il-sensitive mechanisms that influence body fluid and sodium homeostasis. The results of this study suggest a potential requirement for n-3 PUFAs, early in life, for normal development and neural function. Evidence that early dietary n-3 PUFA...

Note that although the selectivity coefficient for Ca is not very good (the electrode is a better sodium sensor ), the sodium contribution (0.0068) in the mixture is only about 0.3 that of the calcium (0.0196), due to the squared term for sodium.
