Sodium chloride Softening temperature

Crystalline solids have characteristic physical properties that identify them. Sodium chloride, for example, melts sharply at 801°C. This is in striking contrast to glass, an amorphous solid, which first softens and then slowly liquifies over a wide range of temperatures.
