Sodium aluminofluoride

Avermectin (Avid ) is a prodnct nsed in commercial crop production. The chemical is produced by bacteria and is used to control leafminers and spider mites. Sodium aluminofluoride or cryolite (Kryocide ) has been used for many years in organic crop production. This product is used to control several types of insects on a wide variety of crops.

Sodium fluoaluminate (sodium aluminofluoride, cryolite) is a stable mineral containing fluoride. It is used as an insecticide on some vegetables and fruits. Cryolite has very low water solubility, does not yield fluoride ions on decomposition, and presents very little toxic hazard to mammals, including man. 

The five most recommended insecticides, chosen with these aims in mind, were trichlorofon 1331), malathion 13.27b), methoxychlor 6.42), carbaryl 13.39), and the inorganic substance, cryolite (sodium aluminofluoride).

This approach may not account for all the fluoride released by glass-ionomers [252], A recent study has used two methods of decomplexation of fluoride, using the same solutions for both methods, by dividing a given storage volume into two and treating each aliquot differently. One aliquot was diluted with an equal volume of TISAB, as is usual in the determination of fluoride by ion-selective electrode. The other solution was treated with a small volume of 4 M hydrochloric acid, allowed to stand for 3 h, then neutralised with an equal amount of 4 M sodium hydroxide.
