Soda methods

After the primary concentration process, the monazite is broken down either by the traditional sulphuric acid treatment or by the more recent caustic soda method. Several books [21,140,141] and reviews [142—144] give the useful details of the treatment of monazite. [Pg.16]

The soda method was also attempted in Finland in the 1870s and early 1880s. Theodor Hoffding and another Danish engineer were involved in setting up the first two pulp mills close to Viipuri, near the eastern border. However, commercial production first started in 1886 in the Walkiakoski paper mill, a Finnish company in the western part of the country that employed the sulphate process. Due to technical setbacks, the output remained modest for many years. Paper mills in Nokia and Kuusankoski adopted the other process, sulphite pulping, in 1885, and succeeded much better. Imitators followed, and for several decades that process dominated chemical pulping in Finland. ... [Pg.349]

Methods for recovering lignin are the alkali process, the sulfite process, ball milling, enzymatic release, hydrochloric acid digestion, and organic solvent extraction. Alkali lignins are produced by the kraft and soda methods for wood pulping. They have low sulfur content ( 1.6 wt. %),... [Pg.42]

SELTZER WATER. The bubbling action in the seltzer is what makes it an effective stain fighter. Before pouring on a small amount of fizzy water, blot and dab urine stains with paper towels. Once the liquid has stopped fizzing, blot the spot again and repeat as necessary. For a fresh stain, this may be all the treatment you need. For old or set-in stains, consider this a pretreatment. Allow the carpet to dry, then treat with the baking soda method (Step 2). [Pg.187]
