Social and environmental assessment

By April 1983, the draft EIS for the Presidential Parkway had been prepared and approved by the Federal Highway Administration. Nearly 1000 copies of the draft EIS were distributed to individuals who had expressed an interest in the project. [Pg.226]

Reference 2 describes the public meetings that were conducted to explain the Presidential Parkway to interested citizens as follows  [Pg.226]

Between May 31 and June 2, 1983, three public information meetings were conducted in neighborhoods adjacent to the project. The meetings were informal where individuals could review displays, could ask questions, and could speak to a court reporter if they wished to enter their comments into the public record. These comments were made a part of the hearing transcript. [Pg.226]

Public response was light at the Howard School but several hundred people attended the Little Five Points Community Center meeting and a great many made statements to the court reporter. Because of the great turnout and expected interest in the Candler Park neighborhood two court reporters were available at the third meeting at the Epworth Methodist Church. [Pg.226]

Comments on the draft EIS were sought and received from six federal agencies and eight state and local agencies. [Pg.227]
