Small subunit rRNA gene sequence

Small subunit rRNA gene sequences have been determined for a large number of nematode taxa distributed across the phylum (Ellis et al., 1986 Zarlenga et al, 1994a,b Fitch et al., 1995 Fitch and Thomas, 1997 Aleshin et al, 1998 Blaxter et al., 1998 Kampfer et al, 1998 Dorris et al., 1999). These can thus be used to examine the relationships of the different nematode orders. The pattern of nematode evolution that emerges is... [Pg.12]

One of the largest collections of published environmental small subunit rRNA gene clones from any source is that from marine prokaryotic plankton [20]. This dataset currently includes more than 600 identified bacterial clones. A comprehensive analysis of these sequences has shown that identical sequences falling into similar clades are recovered from geographically and ecologically... [Pg.215]

Throughout the 2003 mesocosm study, water (50-500 ml) was collected every third day onto 0.8 gm Supor membrane filters (Pall corp.) and stored at -80°C until analysis. Following enumeration of Phaeocystis sp. single cells and colonies, two samples were chosen for molecular determination of the composition of the Phaeocystis sp. community. RNA polymerase III transcribes the small genes for the many different tRNAs and the 5 S rRNA of the large ribosomal subunit. The primary tRNA transcripts in eukaryotes are transformed into mature tRNAs by endonuclease removal of a 5 -leader sequence, and replacement of a 3 -terminal UU by CCA. [Pg.323]
