SIS Engineering Requirements

While a SIS is similar to a BPCS in many ways, the differences result in unique design, maintenance, and mechanical integrity requirements. These include  [Pg.22]

Remember that the design engineer must satisfy these requirements in addition to the functional requirements and performance requirements normally associated with control system design. [Pg.22]

Another difference between Basic Process Control System design and Safety Instrumented System design is that per ANSl/lSA-84.00.01-2004 (lEC 61511 Mod) these systems are designed and implemented to meet different risk reduction requirements presented by the various hazards. (Chapter 1) [Pg.22]

So while it may seem like BPCS design and SIS design are the same, most experienced SIS designers recognize the additional design constraints that must be met for SIS. [Pg.23]
