In this paper, the effect of sintering atmosphere and temperature on the activity of a typical three-way autoinotive exhaust catalyst system (Pt/Rh/y-Al O /CeO ) and the implications of correlating fundamental catalyst characterization data such as average noble metal crystallite size and composition with catalytic activity are discussed. 

While the observed dependence of the densification rate on particle size, applied pressure, and temperature follows qualitatively the predictions of the sintering models, factors such as particle packing, sintering atmosphere, and heating schedule can have a decisive effect on the sintering process. 

Chemically, the sintering atmosphere can lead to a variety of effects, including evaporation of volatile constituents from the solid, decomposition of the solid, enhanced...

On the basis of basic experiment, the study provided pure CO of constant-rate of flow in the sintering process, thereby simulating flue gas circulation to enhance the reducing atmosphere. Effects of CO dosage on removal ratio of K2O, Na20 and metallization ratio are indicated in Figure 6.

On the contrary, polyaystalline adsorbent sintered in reducing atmosphere are most suitable (from the stand-point of effect on electrophysics of adsorbent) as operational elements to determine small concentrations of various gaseous admixtures under vacuum conditions and in atmosphere of inert gases. Their use in air especially at high temperatimes may be disadvantageous due to plausible development of oxidizing processes. 

A variation of eq. (5.453) has been proposed by Fuentes et al. (1991) for quantitatively determining the effect of temperature, time, and atmosphere on the sintering rate of supported metal catalysts ...
