Step 2. Filtration - Onee the preeoating stage is eompleted the proeess slurry is pumped into the filter, the forming eake is retained on the plates and the filtrate flows to further proeessing. When the solids are fine and slow to filter a body-aid is added to the feed slurry in order to enhanee eake permeability. However, it should be kept in mind that the addition of body-aid inereases the solids eoneentration in the feed so it oeeupies additional volume between the plates and inereases the amount of eake for disposal. Likewise, for all those applieations when the eake is the produet, preeoat and filter-aid may not be used sinee they mix and diseharge together with the eake. [Pg.195]

Negleeting CO desorption, as in the standard ZGB model, the CO-poi-soned state is irreversible sinee there is no possibility of removing CO from the surfaee. So, CO desorption has to be eonsidered in order to avoid the fully CO-poisoned state. The adsorption and desorption of X then drives the system from a state with high eoneentration of adsorbed CO to the reaetive state and baek. This proeess ean be understood with the aid of Fig. 8. At low X eoverage only the reaetive state is stable. Inereasing X eoverage eauses site bloeking and eonsequently the adsorption of both CO and O2 is redueed. [Pg.404]

Adjust the pulse/funetion generator with the aid of the oscilloscope to create a sine wave as shown in Figure S-2 with an amplitude accuracy of +5 percent or better. [Pg.205]

Brief reflection on the sampling theorem (Chapter 1, Section IV.C) with the aid of the Fourier transform directory (Chapter 1, Fig. 2) leads to the conclusion that the Rayleigh distance is precisely two times the Nyquist interval. We may therefore easily specify the sample density required to recover all the information in a spectrum obtained from a band-limiting instrument with a sine-squared spread function evenly spaced samples must be selected so that four data points would cover the interval between the first zeros on either side of the spread function s central maximum. In practice, it is often advantageous to place samples somewhat closer together. [Pg.63]

This compound can be made from 4.4g of sine acetate 2-hydrate in 20ml of water, 3g of anhydrous ethylenedi-araine, and 6g of solid ammonium or sodium fiuoroborate. About 10ml of 95% alcohol aids in completing precipitation. [Pg.167]

Yet another unsolved problem is the separation of two voices that contain closely spaced harmonics or overlapping harmonic and aharmonic components. The time-varying nature of sine-wave parameters, as well as the synchrony of movement of these parameters within a voice [Bregman, 1990], may provide the key to solving this more complex separation problem. Section 6.3 revealed, for example, the limitation of assuming constant sine-wave amplitude and frequency in analysis and as a consequence proposed a generalization of Equation (9.75) based on linear sine-wave amplitude and frequency trajectories as a means to aid separation of sine waves with closely-spaced frequencies. [Pg.222]

The knowledge of the emetine fragmentation pattern proved very helpful in the structure elucidation of the unknown alkaloid tubulo-sine.85 Mass spectrometry aided very much in solving the structural problem of rhoeadine, first thought to be a tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloid but now shown to be a representative of a new alkaloid... [Pg.340]

V. Numerical Values of hyperbolic functions.—Table IY. (pages 616, 617, and 618) contains numerical values of the hyperbolic sines and cosines for values of from 0 to 5, at intervals of 0 01. They have been checked by comparison with Des Ingenieurs Taschenbuch, edited by the Hiitte Academy, Berlin, 1877. The tables are used exactly like ordinary logarithm tables. Numerical values of the other functions can be easily deduced from those of sinh and cosh by the aid of equations (4). [Pg.350]

Around 1621, the Dutch scientist Wihibrod Snell discovered the correct law of refraction, which both Ptolemy and Alhazen were unable to deduce. By applying heuristic momentum conservation arguments in terms of sines, Rene Descartes independently derived the law in his 1637 philosophical and mathematical treatise. Discourse on Method. Descartes was able to solve several optical problems with the aid of this law. [Pg.37]

From the square sine of the average angles of orientation and of the paratropic and interferences respectively, the orientation factor of the crystallites can be calculated with the aid of the equation... [Pg.624]

Aqueous phase (or liquid phase) reforming is a new approach for converting biomass feedstocks into oxygenated speeies in the presence of water, and then subsequently converting the oxygenates into H2, syngas, or alkanes with the aid of catalysts in the aqueous phase (eqn (7.4)). This approach was pioneered by Dumesic and co-workers in 2002. Sinee then, this approach has been used to convert biomass feed stoeks into a variety of liquid fuels and chemicals. ... [Pg.99]
