It has been noted above that alkenes should be subject to epoxidation. However, the involvement of an epoxide intermediate would result in the formation of a premercapturic acid. This has been observed in the cases of styrene James and White, 1967), a-3,4,5,6-tetrachlorocycIohex-1-ene and y-2,3,4,5,6-pentachIorocyclohex-l-ene (Sims and Grover, 1965). The latter authors attribute the catalysis to glutathione-iS-aryl-transf erase. [Pg.284]
