Silicon-bridged biaryls (SBArs) have attracted growing attention in the fields of functional organic materials such as light-emitting diodes, field-effect transistors, and solar cells. The conventional synthesis of SBArs always involves dilithiation of the corresponding 2,2 -dihalobiaryls with dichlorosilanes. However, this protocol is limited to symmetrical substrates in most cases.
