Silicon alkylation

Other studies are under way, with other metal-metal bonded compounds, such as the tin and silicon alkyls. [Pg.202]

Polymeric silicon alkyl compounds Polymeric compounds are often observed in the Wurtz synthesis of dihalodialkyl(aiyl)silanes with metals. The intermediate product is probably a dialkyl(aryl)silylene (see Chapter 7). A polymeric dimethylsilane was found by Burkhard68). A yellow polymeric (SiCH3) was isolated after pyrolysis of SiH4 with ethylene156). [Pg.106]

Microporous solids with surface areas in the range of 400 m /g or larger can be prepared in several ways. Controlled thermal decomposition of silica gel or aluminum hydroxides to AIO(OH) and then to the 7- or r/-phases of alumina produces such high-surface-area materials. The so-called sol-gel method, which uses both aluminate and silicate ions or aluminum and silicon alkyl compounds at a well-controlled hydrogen ion concentration, produces crystalline microporous solids that... [Pg.292]

Metallic Alkyl DeriTatives. The alkylmagnesium halides are frequently too expensive for commercial application, but they can be used to make alkylphenols, to prepare other metal alkyls and silicon alkyls from the... [Pg.817]

Ozone has been found to cleave Si-X bonds, where X = silicon, alkyl, aryl, hydroxyl and alkoxyl, to give siloxanes as major products (10,11). [Pg.26]

A series of competition reactions was run to determine how the reactivity of the Si-H bond in R. SiH toward ozone varied with R. The VPC of the crude reaction product indicated the presence of only the corresponding silanol and disiloxane. The latter could have been produced by dehydration of the silanol by ozone (JJ). In no case was any compound observed which could have been produced by the cleavage of a silicon-alkyl bond. Thus, the disappearance of silane is caused entirely by reaction of the Si-H bond. It is possible that various alcohols... [Pg.28]

To overcome the problems of gas-sensor failure due to poisoning of the elements, several manufacturers have used specific filter devices in front of the elements. For example, filters to remove alkyl lead compounds from petrol vapour have included paradichlorobenzene and fibrous silica (3). However, the most commonly used material is based on active charcoal. Such filters (4) effectively absorb many common poisons and inhibitors including silicones, alkyl lead compounds and halogen-containing species. However, along with the absorption of potentially harmful vapours, carbon filters will also absorb hydrocarbons. This effect in practice limits the use of such filters to detectors for C3 and lower hydrocarbons. They cannot be employed in general flammable gas detectors. [Pg.262]
