Organochloro-silanes

These substances are very promising for the synthesis of organochloro-silanes with various radicals at the silicon atom, i.e. by direct alkylation (or arylation) of hydrideorganochlorosilanes with chlorine derivatives of unsaturated and aromatic hydrocarbons.

As described above, a variety of new Si-H containing organochloro-silanes were successfully synthesized by the hydrogen chloride incorporating technique to activated alkyl chlorides such as allyl chloride, polychloromethanes and silyl-substituted methyl chlorides in the direct reaction of elemental silicon in the presence of copper-catalyst/cadmium promoter. 

Silicones have been produced industrially since the 1940 s. In 1995 there were thirteen silicone producers in Western industrialized countries. Silicone production can be estimated on the basis of the production of organochlorosilanes, the starting materials for silicone production, taking into account that ca. 0.5 kg of methylsiloxane is produced from 1 kg of dimethyidichlorosilane. Since silicone products generally contain additives, such as fillers, or are combined with other components, the total quantity of silicone products should be similar to the quantity of (organochloro)silanes produced. The disiloxane 15a can also be obtained by the reaction of the silanol 13a with Cp(OC)2pe-CH2-SiMe2Cl in the presence of EtjN. The disiloxanes 15b,c with only one iron fragment are analogously available using the organochloro-silanes Me(R)Si(H)Cl (R = Me, j -Tol). 

The Si-OH groups can be silanized by reaction with organochloro- or organo-alkoxysilanes.
