Acetylation and the use of trifluoroacetates, originally the more popular derivatives for the separation of carbohydrates by GC, are still used on occasion, but the various silanization methods are, today, the most common and considered the most effective for GC carbohydrate analysis. 

As illustrated in Table 10, a wide variety of enolates undergo Mannich reactions with A A -dimethyl-(methylene)iminium salts. They include ester (entries 1), lactone (entries 2-4), a-ethoxycarbonyllactone (entry 5), acyliron (entry 6), aldehyde (entry 7), carboxylic acid (entry 8), and ketone (entries 9-12) enolates. Yields are gener ly comparable to the direct enol silane method except in the case of aldehydes... 

The route via silanes is suitable for crosslinking of both the cabks and pipes. It is becoming more and more preferred also in crosslinking of other products. Besides technological benefits, the silane method of crosslinking enables one to conduct crosslinking with such polyolefins where a network structure is difficult or even im-po ble to form with a radical mechanism. 

Cracking of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) at 340°C using a plastic/catalyst mass ratio = 100 with different hierarchical ZSM-5 samples prepared by a seed silanization method. In this case, while a turnover frequency (TOF) value of just 0.018 s is achieved over conventional ZSM-5, the hierarchical ZSM-5 samples leads toward TOF values within the 0.384-0.901 s range, depending on the combination of mesoporosity/acidity of the hierarchical sample [137]. 

In order to prepare hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces, femtosecond laser was used to pattern the metallic surface and after irradiation the surface was subjected to silanization using dip coating in order to reduce its surface energy and make it inherently hydrophobic.
