Shrinkage, in sintering

Most systems exhibit shrinkage in sintering and it has been found that the following equation applies ... [Pg.202]

Similar considerations were made for HAp + Zt02 (20 %wt. Y2Q3) ceramics and they enabled determination of the amount of addition ZrC>2+20 %wt. Y2Q3 powder that corresponded with zero shrinkage in sinter at the level of 76% wt.. Confidence corridor range for these samples ranged from 70% to 82% wt. [Pg.146]

The atmosphere is also important in sintering. Gas trapped in closed pores will limit pore shrinkage unless the gas is soluble in the grain boundary and can diffuse from the pore. Alumina doped with MgO can be sintered to essentially zero porosity in hydrogen or oxygen atmospheres, which are soluble, but not in air, which contains insoluble nitrogen. The density of oxides sintered in air is commonly less than 98% and often only 92-96%. The sintering atmosphere is also important in that it may influence the sublimation or the stoichiometry of the principal particles or dopants. [Pg.730]

The anode is stabilized by using mixed powders of Ni-Cr, Ni-Al, or refractory oxides and sintered at 900-1100°C under a reducing atmosphere to provide a creep resistant anode structure. The function of the additives is to reduce the loss of porosity during sintering and develop creep resistant materials. The creep is referred to as the shrinkage in thickness and change in shape. The sintering resistance is increased by the additives, which are usually metals or oxides of metals. [Pg.1752]

Stoichiometry, described by the Ca/P molar ratio, has a major influence on the physical properties of the apatite and, hence, its application. For calcium-deficient hydroxylapatite, a decrease in surface area starting at 700°C leads to a lower shrinkage (8% less for a powder with Ca/P of 1.64 relative to stoichiometric HAp at 1200°C) (Raynaud et al. 2002b). Low shrinkage in the final sintered product is usually accom-... [Pg.641]

Table 1 shows the properties of SiC samples via gelcasting forming method and pressureless sintering. Differed to the trend in linear shrinkage with the solid content, there was not much difference in sinter density with respect to the solid content. Sintered densities as high as 98%TD were achieved for all the samples. [Pg.313]
