The solution (pad bath) contains one or more of the amino resias described above, a catalyst, and other additives such as a softener, a stiffening agent, or a water repeUant. The catalyst may be an ammonium or metal salt, eg, magnesium chloride or ziac nitrate. Synthetic fabrics, such as nylon or polyester, are treated with amino resias to obtaia a stiff finish. Cotton (qv) or rayon fabrics or blends with synthetic fibers are treated with amino resias to obtain shrinkage control and a durable-press finish. [Pg.331]

Uniform wall thickness Wall requirements are usually governed by the load, the support needs for other components, attachment bosses, and other protruding sections. Designing a product to meet all these requirements while still producing a reasonably uniform wall will greatly benefit its durability. A uniform wall thickness will minimize stresses, differences in shrinkage, possible void formation, and sinks on the surface it also usually contributes to material saving and economy in production. [Pg.184]

The method of placement makes shoterete potentially more variable and more anisotropic than normal concrete. Consequently, the development of the physical and mechanical properties such as strength, shrinkage, permeability and durability is drastically different from those of normal concrete. The effects are particularly noticeable during the very early and later ages [107, 109, 117]. [Pg.375]

Ozone is being investigated for shrinkage prevention (182). Wool and blends of wool, cotton, and polyester have been finished to provide improved flame-retardant, durable-press, and shrinkage properties (183,184). Fabrics of these types are often used for uniforms or protective clothing (185). [Pg.449]

Commonly used adhesives include epoxy, rubber, acrylic or vinyl emulsions, and urethanes. Epoxies are high-priced, but they have better chemical resistance and durability than the others, and they have dominated the market in outdoor applications. Significant advantages of the epoxy-based adhesives are that they have no solvents and, therefore, exhibit little shrinkage. They cure relatively fast and, therefore, are not as exposed to inclement... [Pg.13]

Sometimes filled adhesives will show better resistance to moisture resistance than unfilled adhesives simply because incorporating inert fillers into the adhesive lowers the organic volume that can be affected by moisture. Aluminum powder seems to be particularly effective, especially on aluminum substrates. The filler can provide a reduction of shrinkage on cure, a reduction of the thermal expansion coefficient, and a reduction of the permeability to water and other penetrants. However, fillers do not always produce more durable bonds. [Pg.328]

Heat durability and Heat Shrinkage of Yams, Du Pont Bull. (1959)... [Pg.228]

Infiltration of the permeable concrete with molten sulfur yields a matrix which is almost impermeable to water. The freeze-thaw durability tests have indicated this is so, and immersion tests showed that fully infiltrated specimens absorbed less than 0.3% water by volume over several months, although methanol immersion and vacuum poro-simeter measurements revealed that a pososity of over 5% was available for filling. A total shrinkage of about 13% (Table I) occurs when liquid sulfur crystallizes to the stable low-temperature S< form, but much of the volume change appears to be accommodated in closed pores and intercrystal inversion fractures which affect the permeability little. [Pg.93]

CNC REZ K is a modified ethylene urea formaldehyde resin which was created to give the finisher a thermosetting resin which possesses all of the outstanding features of cyclic resins as to shrinkage control, crease resistance, hand appeal and also not detract from soil release properties. This resin gives fairly soft hand on all classes of fibres and is exceptionally durable on the polyester/cotton blends. [Pg.202]
