Sherley Amendment

Sherley Amendments prohibit labelling medicines with false therapeutic claims intended to defraud the purchaser.

The Sherley Amendment passes to prohibit false therapeutic claims in medicines. 

In response to the 1911 Supreme Court ruling, Congress passes the Sherley amendment to prohibit labeling of medicines with false claims about therapeutic value that intend to defraud consumers. 

Congress enacts the Sherley Amendment to overcome the ruling in U.S. versus Johnson. It prohibits labeling medicines with false therapeutic claims intended to defraud the purchaser, a standard difficult to prove.
