Shape regeneration

In 1969 and 1971 Meloy presented papers in which fast Fourier transforms were used to process particle silhouettes as signals [47,48] and this work was extended in 1977 [49,50]. One of their main conclusions was that particles have signatures which depend on and not on and they proposed the equation  [Pg.83]

A plot of against log n yields a straight line of slope i- that depends on particle shape, rounder particles having lowers values [51], [Pg.84]

Beddow [42] showed how a number of particle silhouette shapes could be analyzed and reproduced by Fourier transforms. Gotoh and Finney [52] proposed a mathematical method for expressing a single, three-dimensional body by sectioning as an equivalent ellipsoid having the same volume, surface area and projected area as the original body. [Pg.84]

Shape regeneration can be performed by Fourier transformation techniques. First the particle s center of gravity is found from its outline. Then a polar coordinate system is set up. Schwarcz and Shane... [Pg.59]

Most commercial adsorbents for gas-phase appHcations are employed in the form of pellets, beads, or other granular shapes, typically about 1.5 to 3.2 mm in diameter. Most commonly, these adsorbents are packed into fixed beds through which the gaseous feed mixtures are passed. Normally, the process is conducted in a cycHc manner. When the capacity of the bed is exhausted, the feed flow is stopped to terminate the loading step of the process, the bed is treated to remove the adsorbed molecules in a separate regeneration step, and the cycle is then repeated. [Pg.269]

A unit referred to as the Higgins Loop has been popular ia water treatmeat, as well as other appHcatioas. Resia is pulsed at regular iatervals arouad a rectangularly shaped loop. The diameter of the adsorption section is larger than that of the regeneration section. [Pg.383]

Production capacity was almost equally spHt between powdered and nonpowdered activated carbon products. Powdered activated carbon, a less expensive form used in Hquid-phase appHcations, is generally used once and then disposed of. In some cases, however, granular and shaped products are regenerated and reused (35). In 1990 production capacity for granular and shaped products was spHt with about two-thirds for Hquid-phase and one-third for gas-phase appHcations (37). [Pg.531]

Many models have been proposed for adsorption and ion exchange equilibria. The most important factor in selecting a model from an engineering standpoint is to have an accurate mathematical description over the entire range of process conditions. It is usually fairly easy to obtain correcl capacities at selected points, but isotherm shape over the entire range is often a critical concern for a regenerable process. [Pg.1503]

The whole Cladonia thalli and its derived fraction delay the spore germination and regeneration of new filaments and also inhibit their growth. Some alterations at cell level are the granular appearance and the presence of microvesicles in cytoplasm and the alterations in the shape of chloroplast, which become spherical and bulged. In cultures with whole Cladonia thalli, moss protonemal filaments are significantly shorter than... [Pg.67]
