Shape identity

Consider the pair of molecules, heptane and dipropyl ether. By any criteria, we would say that the shapes were very similar, though not identical. As derived so far, each k, k, and value would be the same for this pair of molecules, implying shape identity. An additional consideration is necessary if we are to quantitate shape attributes where there are major differences in atoms and/or hybrid states. An approximation of shape equality between cyclohexane and benzene is probably not adequate for many structure-activity analyses. Some account must be taken of the fact that different atoms make different size contributions to a molecule, thereby influencing its overall shape. [Pg.400]

The semitransparency of such photomasks is reached by the shape identity of the elements of electroless plated upper NiP layer and of the vacuum, plated lower Si layer. Symmetry of the elements in upper and lower layers coincides. However, the area of upper NiP elements is less than that of elements of the lower silicon layer. [Pg.355]

Cut out two heart shapes, identical but for the slits, from thick paper. Cut and crease, loltowmg the colour coding, then interfock the two slits. Glue the hearts to the hacking sheet, following the procedure desenbed m Horizontal V techniques (see page 701. [Pg.121]

It is also of interest that the coefficients in the asymptotic flux are almost identical in the two cases. Moreover, the stable periods are almost the same. Thus, not only are the asymptotic shapes identical, for all practical purposes,... [Pg.285]

Neoliberal institutionalists look at the role and relevance of international institutions. They examine the principles, norms, rules and decision-making procedures that influence state expectations and behaviour. As international lawyers soon realized, this was international law by another name. In short, neoliberal institutionalists examine the effect of institutions in the international society. They assert that institutions can shape identities, roles and interests of states as they provide behavioural guidance, reduce uncertainty and facilitate cooperation. ... [Pg.23]

This is not simply an issue of personality organizational, institutional, and situational factors play a role in shaping identity (Olga Pierrakos et al. 2010). [Pg.47]

Under these conditions, for example, when the oil mass is entirely free, it will be flattened somewhat on the piece of fabric which covers the bottom of the vessel, and then presents, on the whole, the same form as a droplet of mercury of a suitable volume deposited on a horizontal solid level. Under the same conditions, the mass suspended from the solid disc of the experiments of 14 lengthens, and takes a shape identical to that of a water drop suspended from the lower end of a solid rod, etc. [Pg.71]

This theorem is apphcable to the surface in question, because when one raises the wire square, all the elements of the film are vertical along the ridge of the small mass which attaches it to the liquid, and are consequently perpendicular to the horizontal plane which would pass through this ridge. Since the surface contains the four Unes of the sides of the square frame, one sees that one can also apply the first theorem to it, and one can conceive it in any extent. Taken thus in its totality, it enjoys this singular property that, if one considers it as bounding a Uquid mass, the space which it leaves vacant constitutes, in hollow, a shape identical to that of the filled space. [Pg.105]
